What our clients are saying:

Terry is an absolute DREAM to work with.  I feel so lucky to have found her.  Not only did she help me to eventually narrow my laundry list of schools I wanted to apply to, but she also gave great insight as to what schools would be a good fit for me in the first place.  She takes what is arguably one of the most stressful times in a person’s life and makes it seem manageable--even enjoyable.  She is truly gifted at what she does.  Throughout the process of working with her, she became a true friend to my family and me.  She was somebody I could call and chat with when I felt overwhelmed, and she was the first call I made when I was admitted to my dream school.  She is honest, does not cut corners, and always tells it exactly like it is.  Her advice is sound, her opinions researched, and she has visited an impressive number of schools.  Terry invests in each of her students.  I remember one morning, before a SKYPE interview I had, she practiced SKYPing with me so I would know exactly where to look and where to sit.  With Terry, no stone goes unturned.  She really is a seasoned pro with anything and everything college admissions related.  She is a warm, lively, compassionate human being who always goes the extra mile.  I cannot say enough good things about Terry, and I recommend her every chance I get!

Thank you, Terry, for helping our family navigate the college search process with our son Ben.  Earlier this year, when he was home for the weekend, he said "Mom, don't take this the wrong way, but I want to be back at Valpo. I just love it there"  This is what every parent wants to hear, especially in the Fall of freshman year - to know that her child really is "fine",  that he is happy, well-adjusted, & trying out new things.  What a relief to know he was "ready for college" - as Terry reassured me several times - amid Ben's procrastination, resistance, avoidance of college essay writing, and general "I dunno" teen responses.

As an educational consultant, Terry has the perfect working style for teens - fun, cool, but mostly "not-my-mom".  She is such a gifted coach - she quickly becomes a valued confidant to her students.  Terry holds her students to a high standard, and expects of the absolute best of them, because she genuinely believes in them (and they know this!), and she becomes one of their biggest champions.  So intuitive, Terry can see a teen's unique gifts and reflect them back, reminding her students of them, when they doubt them themselves.  Also, Terry's work behind the scenes is spot on!  The hours spent not in front of the client - analyzing personality tests, standardized test scores, transcripts, insights from conversations, a family's financial data  and then adding to that her expert knowledge of the college landscape - is where you really see Terry's impact   Ben, who was a B student in high school & undecided in his major,  was accepted to every school he applied to and received merit aid too.  Terry is so talented at what she does - working with her was the absolute best investment our family could have made in helping Ben launch into his life after high school. She is now working with our daughter Katie, a high school junior, and all of us can hardly wait to see the possibilities awaiting her . . . thank you.

I can't imagine having gone through the process of finding a college without Terry's guidance. Before working with Terry, I didn't realize that a school's size, location, and the kinds of people that go there could have such an impact on whether it was a good fit for me or not. Without Terry's help, I never would've ended up at Lewis and Clark College, but I am so thankful that I did because my academic interests and personality type fit so well here. I always thought I wanted to go to school far away from home, but I don't know if that would've become a reality without Terry's advocacy and encouragement.

Terry’s knowledge and guidance throughout the college application process has been invaluable. She’s been there for us every step of the way. With her expertise, my daughter was accepted to several colleges we thought were out of reach. Terry is an extremely valuable asset to anyone going through the college application process. Terry took the time to get to know my daughter and customize a great set of schools for her to apply to. She relates well with high school age kids and really understands the confusing and frustrating time they are going through. She calmed a lot of nerves! (mostly mine!) I highly recommend Terry without hesitation.

Terry was a lifesaver in helping us navigate the college search and application process for our first daughter.  She gave her a wonderful list of schools to tour, listing places we never would have thought to visit.  Terry was diligent in keeping our Senior on task for getting the applications done on time for the early admission dates.  Terry really understood all the guidelines and inside scoop on the entire process.  Mostly, Terry encouraged our daughter which meant a lot when it came from someone other than Mom and Dad! We are already gleaning from Terry's expertise as she helps us with daughter #2 who is currently a Junior.  We are so thankful for Terry ensuring our survival in the college search process.

Brian is acclimating well this year.  He enjoys his school, teachers and students.  This school was a great pick for him.  The time you took to help him find the right “fit” was well worth it.  Your follow-up and communication helped Brian make good choices and stay on track. Thank you for the energy, honesty and collaboration as we searched for the right college home from Brian.  We wouldn’t have been able to do it without you.

Terry made a huge difference in the college selection process for our daughter.  She really understood our daughter's personality and interests, and used that to propose different options and challenge her during the selection process.  It was immensely helpful to have an objective voice during the application and selection process especially in reviewing essays.  Terry’s knowledge and guidance during application and financial aid process really helped us have the confidence that we were on track and not missing anything.  Were were extremely satisfied with Terry’s work and now have our younger daughter starting  to work with her as well.

I cannot tell you how helpful Terry was with our daughter.  We started with Compass at the end of her Sophomore year and Terry guided us through the entire process.  She took the time to really get to know our daughter and what she liked/disliked and what type of school she would thrive in.  By mid junior year we had a great list of colleges to look at.  Most of them we had never heard of before!

But the assistance that she gave Katie during the application process was worth every penny.  Terry edited and re-edited many essays (one school had 16 supplemental essays!) and made sure that Katie knew the timeline she was working with to get her apps in for early admissions.  We also appreciated that she guided us in the direction of colleges that she thought Katie could receive scholarships.  But her assistance didn’t end there.  Terry was a very objective and helpful sounding board for Katie during the decision making process.  We learned after the fact that Katie had much more communication with Terry than we ever imagined.  At times it seemed like it was daily.

Terry helped Katie find a school that she is now thriving at and she received a merit package that put the price of the school within our range.  She is now working with daughter #2 who is a junior. She has new resources that we feel with help even more with choosing a school and a major.  Using Terry is the best thing we did regarding the college search for our now Freshman.  You won’t regret it!

I never thought I would actually be able to get into a university until I started working with Terry. She really does go above and beyond for you. She did everything in her power to fulfill my dreams.  Her work ethic and resources are what helped me to get to college and I couldn't be happier.

- Tiera L., student, class of 2014

Working with Terry at Compass College Consulting was great! She really opened me up to ideas and schools I wouldn't have considered on my own. The overall application process was a lot less stressful and easier to navigate with her keeping me on track. I can not wait to be a Boston University Terrier in the fall!

Over the past several years, Terry has provided exceptional guidance to my college-bound daughters and myself.  Her expertise has helped us to navigate the often-times confusing and complex world of the college search, application, and selection process.  She has been instrumental in helping my daughters to find college homes that fit well with their needs and goals…and our budget. I give her my highest recommendation.   Karen M. Geneva, IL

Choosing to work with Terry, for our daughter’s college search process, was one of the best parental decisions we have made. Like most families, we were a bit overwhelmed with how to manage the process and guide our child through it successfully. From our very first meeting with Terry, we felt an immediate sense of relief. She made an overwhelming process, not only manageable, but, enjoyable. More importantly, she has an amazing ability to connect and communicate with our daughter. Our daughter feels like Terry is her advocate and genuinely has her interest at heart. We highly recommend Terry. Any student and parent would be thankful they worked with her.

- Todd & Amy M., parents, class of 2013

We were introduced to Terry and had an initial meeting to see if we were a good fit. The professionalism showed through right away and I was confident in her abilities. The scope of what she did was fantastic! She helped us with research to identify target schools within the parameters set out by us and helped us make contacts with those schools where appropriate. She stayed in constant communication with us and provided feedback after all of the different milestones that you go through during the identification and application process. When it came time for the actual applications, she was very helpful with reminders to keep us on the required timeline for each school and the needed information at each milestone. Her knowledge of the process and her contacts with her peers keep abreast of things happening in the current cycle was very valuable to us and saved us much duplication of effort. My son ended up applying to 5 schools and all 5 resulted in acceptance letters. Terry more than met my expectations and I would highly recommend her.

I wanted to thank you for the time and counseling you provided us over the past year for my daughter's college search. She is very happy and getting ready to head down to Nashville to start at Vanderbilt in mid-August.  The prep she did with you last fall on college selection factors made it a no brainer decision.  Again, thank you and best of luck with your next wave of students.

- Brett M., parent, class of 2013

I just wanted to thank you for all the help that you have given me over the past year in choosing my school. I would be completely lost without all your help and guidance along the way. You have been incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. I wanted to email you to let you know that I will be attending Drake University next fall. I have received a great amount of scholarships and aid that have all greatly helped by financial ability for the school along with being accepted into their honors program. I cannot wait to be a bulldog next year. Again thank you for all the wise words that you have given me. Your help is greatly appreciated!
